Changes in F.B Purity v30.7.0
- Updated :- FB Purity is now compatible with the new Facebook design!
- New Option to switch you back to the old Facebook design (see image above for the method to do this) .
- New Options to hide the new buttons in the top nav bar in the new Facebook design (Groups, Gaming, Watch, Create (the big + button))
- New Option to hide “Marketplace” link in the left column of the Newsfeed
- New Option to hide “Messenger Kids” in the left column of the Newsfeed
- New Option to hide “Lift Black voices” link in the left column of the Newsfeed
- New Option to hide “3D Photos” (option is located under the “Photo posts” Newsfeed filters section)
- Fixed hiding “Instant Games” if you have the hide “Game + App Posts” option ticked
On the new Facebook design, the FBP link for opening the FBP options screen is in a new location (see screenshot above) Due to complicated technical reasons, it is now located next to the search box at the top left of the screen. There is also another way to open the FBP options screen, and that is the F.B. Purity link below the Status Update box, in the FBP info bar, as shown below:
Known Issues:
When attempting to use the new “Switch to old Facebook design” option (or on updating to the new version in the case of Firefox) you may be presented with a dialog asking you for new permissions for the extension.
These are required by the browser extension API systems in order to use the User Agent switching functionality. Rest assured that FBP does not store or transmit user data or Facebook anywhere, as explained on the FBP Privacy page. If you do not allow the permissions, the Revert option will not work, so click “Allow”.
Due to Facebooks extensive changes to their website, some of FBP’s functionality does not yet work on the new Facebook design, and some of it may never work on it, as Facebook have tried to make it extremely difficult for extension developers to work their magic on the site. I will persevere and try and fix up more of FBP’s functionality, however if there is a particular part of FBP’s functionality that you are missing in the new Facebook design, I would suggest you switch back to the old Facebook design, either using Facebook’s “Switch to Facebook Classic” menu option, or if that’s not possible, use the FBP option shown in the image above, or if that’s not available to you, add a separate User Agent switcher extension to your browser, and set your browser’s User Agent to either “Safari 10” or “Chrome 48” (if there are not presets in the extension, you may need to look up (google) the exact text for those User Agents)
Another known issue, due to Facebook making it harder to develop extensions for the site, more of FBP’s functionality is now dependent on the Facebook language setting, so if you find some functionality is not working correctly, try setting your Facebook language to “English” (US or UK) and see if that fixes it.
FBP’s Auto Hide post feature works a bit differently on the new Facebook design, I couldn’t get it to auto hide the posts properly without problems, so at present it just auto hides the post itself without clicking the “hide post” menu button. The interesting thing about hiding posts with the Facebook menu on the new Facebook design is that they still haven’t fixed the bug where using the hide post menu item only hides the post until the page is refreshed. There is one change from the old design though, and that is once you have clicked the “Hide Post” menu item, then reloaded the page, the post will come back, but the hide post menu item will no longer be available, so Facebook is clearly recording the fact you have clicked the hide post button, but are just not honouring your request to hide it.
Sometimes the FBP link will not show up in the top navigation bar, if that occurs, reloading the page may sometimes make it re-appear, I need to look into whats causing that. If the FBP link is missing in the top bar, and you are on the Newsfeed page you should still be able to open the FBP options screen by clicking the “F.B. Purity” link in the bar just below the Status update box that shows which posts have been hidden.
If you have a problem with a text entry box in Messenger missing, with the new Facebook design, try un-ticking the “Hide Chat box” FBP optioon.
The Watch Vid (No Ads) link function is not yet working on the new Facebook design, if you require this functionality, switch back to the old Facebook design.
If you are using Chrome or Edge, but cannot see the FBP icon/button in the extensions toolbar, the icon may be hidden under the “jigsaw piece” menu, as shown in this screenshot:
If you click the jigsaw piece button, then click the pin icon next to the fbp menu item, it should put the fbp icon back in the extensions toolbar, so you will be able to use the revert to old facebook design option.
If you are using Firefox but cannot see the FBP icon/button in the extensions toolbar, the icon may be hidden behind the “Overflow” menu button (double right pointing chevron) as shown in the following screenshot:
]
or if the Overflow button is not showing either, you may need to customize the toolbar to add the Overflow button, then you should be able to access the FBP button.
Important Information for Chrome Users of F.B. Purity
FBP Chrome Update Process: After FB Purity for Chrome is first installed, you should from then on receive automatic updates (Chrome checks for extension updates once every 5 hours). If you don’t want to wait, and know an update is available you can force an update by turning on “Developer Mode” on the Chrome extensions management page, then clicking the “Update” button at the top of the page (make sure you don’t have any facebook tabs open, so Chrome can unload the existing version first).

Important information for Firefox users of F.B. Purity
Once you have installed the Firefox version of FB Purity, it should auto-update itself when I release new versions. Firefox users who are getting the “Connection Failure” error when trying to install FBP should know this is a known bug in Firefox that occurs if you are using Antivirus software that monitors your web browsing. The work-around, as mentioned in the FAQ is to right click on the install button, then select save, then install the extension by dragging and dropping it on to the Firefox extension management page. This Firefox bug can also prevent Firefox from automatically updating FBP when new versions are released.
Important Information for Microsft Edge users of F.B. Purity
If you install the official Edge FBP extension from the Microsoft Edge store, it should auto-update when new versions are released in future. Be aware however that the Microsoft Store has a slow (manual) approval process for accepting extension updates, so the new version will not show up in the Microsoft Store for a day or two after I release an extension update.

Important Information for Opera users of F.B. Purity
The FB Purity extension for Opera needs to be installed via the official Opera Add-ons site, which is where the green Install F.B. Purity button will take you to. Once it has been installed from there, whenever updates to the FBP extension are uploaded and approved on the Opera extensions site (this process can take a few days after an FBP update is published), the version of FBP in your browser should auto-update at some point. It can sometimes be triggered by closing the browser, waiting a bit and re-opening it, there is also an “Update Extensions Now” button on the Opera extensions management page, which if clicked will update all your Opera extensions to the latest versions. In order for the extension to update you may need to first close any open Facebook tabs.

Important Information for users of the Brave Browser
FB Purity can now be easily installed in the latest release of the Brave browser by going to the FB Purity Chrome Webstore page and clicking the “Add to Chrome” button, once installed it will also autoupdate when new FBP releases are made.
All other FBP users can update to the latest version of F.B. Purity by clicking the green “Install F.B. Purity” button on the FB Purity Install page on FBPURITY.COMand then following the on screen instructions.

How dpo I upgrade to this new (30) versoi without losiog my curret settings/options?
please follow the instructions in the post you are replying to
Hello, is this possible to hide posts from people witch containing custom html code?
not currently no. what is your use case? if its something that affects a lot of people, i could add an option to fbp to hide it…
Today’s Facebook redesign has rolled out in Australia and is forcing you to change to it. I could scream!!! My poor eyes need the borders and deep colours. Tell me you are on to this – please? I can see no option to keep the old version anymore.
Please read the post you are replying to, it explains how you can get the old facebook design back.
FB Purity doesnt work anymore?
clicked: old style back
Refreshed and voila…still the new style
the switch back function no longer works unfortunately, due to a facebook code change.
Is Facebook retaliating? When I open Facebook in Chrome (with FBP), I get an error message at the top of the page that says….
Unsupported Browser
You’re using a browser that isn’t supported by Facebook, so we’ve redirected you to a simpler version to give you the best experience.
However, if I open an incognito tab (that doesn’t have FBP), Facebook works just fine.
By the way, the version of Chrome I am using is
Google Chrome is up to date
Version 86.0.4240.111 (Official Build) (64-bit)
It strikes me this is a retaliation.
facebook have closed the loophole that fbp was using to get the old facebook design back, the aftermath is the redirect to m.facebook.com to stop the redirect happening, simply turn off fbp’s “Switch back to old Facebook design” option. (Check the post above for how to access that option, if you are not sure)
I’m using the new FB design and have Lift Black Voices checked to hid but it’s still in my left column. Marketplace, which I also have marked to hide, popped up in the right column this afternoon. Ugh.
Facebook changed some code, so that option stopped working. I have updated FBP’s code to fix it in FBP V32.1.4 which is out now for all browsers (am waiting for Microsoft to approve the Edge version though)
Facebook wouldn’t load on my computer but works fine on my phone. I turned off the F.B. Purity extension and now it’s working. I think there may be a conflict with the app.
As explained in the Troubleshooting Guide on the FAQ page https://faq.fbpurity.com/#troubleshooting the problem you are having is caused by a clash with the Adblock Plus program, both programs are trying to filter the ads at the same time, which is causing unintended consequences, the solution is to disable Adblock Plus for the facebook website, fbp hides all the ads on the site anyway. Alternatively i would recommend replacing Adblock Plus with the better “Ublock Origin” adblocking extension, as it does not clash with FBP.
