Changes in F.B. Purity v34.4.4
- Fixed hiding Sponsored Posts (Though there is a new process you need to follow in order to block them. See below for full details)
F.B. Purity V34.4.4 has a new method for blocking the ads, as shown in the screenshot image. To access the Zap function, click the 3 dot menu at the top right of a Sponsored Post, then select “Zap the ads with F.B. Purity”. (If the “Zap” button doesnt show up, try clicking the 3 dots button again) It will explain that when you see any ads in future, you will need to follow the same process again. When you click “OK” FBP will hide the ad and any subsequent sponsored posts that are loaded. When the ads do show up again at some point after you have used the Zap process, that means Facebook have changed the obfuscated codeword that they are using to identify the Sponsored Posts.
This method is required because Facebook obfuscates the word Sponsored, so its not easy for FBP’s code to determine which posts are ads and which aren’t, and they also change the obfuscation code on a regular basis, which means you will need to “Zap the ads” each time they change the obfuscation code.
Please Note: In Firefox when the ok/cancel dialog box is shown, firefox adds a line of text asking if you want to stop “Prompts” being shown from this site in future, do not click on that or tick the box, as that will disable the Zap function from working properly.
If you are using Microsoft Edge, or using a User Agent switcher extension to spoof the Edge browser, you will most likely not need to use this method as FBP should still be hiding the ads for you automatically as Facebook has not yet updated there new ad code to display in the Edge browser. Also due to a bug in the Edge extensions directory server, this release is not yet available for Edge anyway.
For anyone who was using the previously mentioned method of using the Text Filter to filter out domain name endings such as \.com etc or “Shared with public” you may want to remove those filters now, as this new method should more accurately hide just the ads.
There has been a big change in the way the Newsfeed now works. Facebook are now restricting the number of posts that can show at any one time in the Newsfeed to around 36-40, what this means is, once the Newsfeed has loaded roughly that many posts, any new post added to the end of the feed will knock off one of the first loaded posts in the feed. This will cause strange effects such as the page “jumping” around from time to time, and also posts may disappear before your very eyes. This may look like a bug in FBP, but I assure you it isn’t. You can test it out by disabling FBP, and trying to load over 40 posts in the newsfeed and you will see the posts at the start of the feed will start to disappear.
Many thanks to all those who support FBP, by donating and spreading the word, I couldn’t do this without you!
P.S I am aware the version number listed on the FBP website has not been updated, I am waiting for all versions to be available before I do that.
If you are using the Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Opera extension versions of FBP, your extension should have autoupdated to the fixed version by now, if it hasn’t you should be able to update it via your browser’s extensions management page.
If you are using the GM Script version of FBP and it hasn’t yet autoupdated you can update it by clicking the install fbp script link at install.fbpurity.com then follow the instructions to update the script.

Once again, an outstanding job of helping FB users to be “connected” without being deluged with FB sponsor ‘JUNK” that interferes with the simple function of FB. Thanks, folks!
One last detail: if FBP gets updated in an open FB tab (Firefox at least), the tab has to be reloaded (F5) for the Zap menu to appear.
This idea of a self-learning mechanism is brilliant and very trendy. It’ll work until FB decides to disguise sponsored ads as genuine posts – that’ll be the day I definitely leave them!
Unfortunately this zip-zap method doesn’t work. Next day I see the same ads again.
please read the post before commenting on it, thanks
No zap function for me – no matter how many times I click the three dots or refresh my page. My fb feed is now 99% sponsored ads that I can do nothing about. I loved fb purity at first, but it doesn’t seem to be functioning any longer.
