Changes in F.B Purity v29.5.0
- Updated the Auto Hide filter so it can now Auto Hide image posts if the text in your Auto Hide filters matches the text Facebook has detected embedded in image posts.
- Fixed bug that caused the page to scroll up to the top when clicking on “See More” comment links
- Fixed the squashed text in the bottom line of posts that feature large font sizes and coloured backgrounds, when you have the “Normalize Colored / Big Font Statuses” option turned on.
- New Option to hide the new “Rooms” box that has appeared under the Status update box on the Newsfeed. The option to hide “Rooms” is located under the “More Options” heading on the FBP options screen.
Known Issue:
Facebook have recently launched a new Reaction type titled “Care” and if you are using FBP’s custom Reaction image sets, you will notice that the custom reaction image for “Angry” is shown if you select “Care” this is not on purpose, its just a side effect caused by Facebook’s code change. It would take too much effort to update all the image sets with a new image for care, and would also take a lot of time to fix the coding to allow the new reaction image, and the fact the new Facebook design is looming, with all new code, means its not worth updating the code for this issue at present.
BTW If you find autoplaying “Watch Party” video posts in your newsfeed annoying, especially as they do not obey Facebook’s dont autoplay videos setting, one thing you can do is to filter out all Watch Party posts from your Newsfeed by putting the text Watch Party into FBP’s Text Filter or Auto Hide filter boxes, that will effectively hide all watch party posts from your Newsfeed.
Important Information for Chrome Users of F.B. Purity
FBP Chrome Update Process: After FB Purity for Chrome is first installed, you should from then on receive automatic updates (Chrome checks for extension updates once every 5 hours). If you don’t want to wait, and know an update is available you can force an update by turning on “Developer Mode” on the Chrome extensions management page, then clicking the “Update” button at the top of the page (make sure you don’t have any facebook tabs open, so Chrome can unload the existing version first).

Important information for Firefox users of F.B. Purity
Once you have installed the Firefox version of FB Purity, it should auto-update itself when I release new versions. Firefox users who are getting the “Connection Failure” error when trying to install FBP should know this is a known bug in Firefox that occurs if you are using Antivirus software that monitors your web browsing. The work-around, as mentioned in the FAQ is to right click on the install button, then select save, then install the extension by dragging and dropping it on to the Firefox extension management page. This Firefox bug can also prevent Firefox from automatically updating FBP when new versions are released.
Important Information for Microsft Edge users of F.B. Purity
FB Purity is now available as an official Microsoft Edge extension obtainable directly from the Microsoft Edge store If you install the official Edge FBP extension from the Microsoft Edge store, it should auto-update when new versions are released in future. Be aware however that the Microsoft Store has a slow (manual) approval process for accepting extension updates, so the new version will not show up in the Microsoft Store for a day or two after I release an extension update.

Important Information for Opera users of F.B. Purity
The FB Purity extension for Opera needs to be installed via the official Opera Add-ons site, which is where the green Install F.B. Purity button will take you to. Once it has been installed from there, whenever updates to the FBP extension are uploaded and approved on the Opera extensions site (this process can take a few days after an FBP update is published), the version of FBP in your browser should auto-update at some point. It can sometimes be triggered by closing the browser, waiting a bit and re-opening it, there is also an “Update Extensions Now” button on the Opera extensions management page, which if clicked will update all your Opera extensions to the latest versions. In order for the extension to update you may need to first close any open Facebook tabs.

When I try to install FB purity on my Samsung tablet, a box pops up that says it won’t work with Android. My husband installed it on his Chrome android tablet without any problem.
Please advise
FB Purity is designed to work on the desktop version of Facebook. It wont work on the mobile version of the site. However if you can set your mobile/tablet browser to always ask for the desktop version of the Facebook site, and have a web browser that allows adding extensions (such as Firefox or Kiwi) then, you should be able to install either the Firefox extension version of FBP on Firefox, or the Chrome extension version of FBP on Kiwi. I cannot guarantee the user experience on a mobile/tablet or that FBP will work on these decices, but just suggesting a possibility for trying to get it to work.
FB Purity v29.4.6 does not work with Safari and the new layout on Facebook.
FB Purity does not work with any browser on the new Facebook layout. To get FB Purity working again, you need to switch to the old (“Classic”) Facebook layout. You can do that by clicking the triangle menu at the top right of the page, then select the “Switch to Classic layout” option. If that option is not there you need to install a User Agent switcher extension, then use it to switch your “User Agent” (aka browser identification code) to one of the following:
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_9_3) AppleWebKit/537.75.14 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/7.0.3 Safari/7046A194A
or
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.9; rv:30.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/30.0
Does that mean that FB Purity will not work with the new layout on FB even in the future?
Or are You guys working on it?
I can’t get Purity to SHOW rooms on my Chromebook. Doesn’t matter whether I leave the box unchecked or check ‘hide’ (I know that shouldn’t work); they won’t show up on my page when the app is working. It’s one of the only features of new FB I liked–the ability to see who’s online now in the ‘create rooms’ thing.
Any ideas?
are you using any other browser add-ons that may have hidden it? or put any Custom CSS code in FBP’s CSS box to hide it? if none of those things solve your issue, i would suggest following all the steps in the Troubleshooting Guide on the FAQ page, as it may help isolate what is causing your issue. btw make sure you click hte “save and close” button after you make any changes on the FBP options screen.
