FB Purity v9.0: Deleted Friend Alerts, Friend Whitelist, Chronological Newsfeed Sorting

v9.0.0  of the F.B. (Fluff Busting) Purity browser extension for cleaning up and customizing Facebook has been released:

FB Purity alerts you when your friends delete you and Lets you sort the newsfeed chronologically amongst many other options

FB Purity v9.0.0 has been released

New features in this version:

  • Deleted Friend Alerts – When any of your friends remove you from their friends lists (unfriend you), FBP will display an alert message on the screen. If you dont want to see these alerts, you can turn them off via the FBP options screen.

  • Friend Whitelist – You can now specify the friends whose posts you dont want FBP to filter out from the newsfeed.

  • Chronological Newsfeed Sorting – If you see the newsfeed is not sorted chronologically, just press the “R” key on your keyboard, and FBP will resort the feed into correct chronological order.
  • Hide “Commented on This” option – Lets you hide posts that begin with “Friend X commented on this”
  • Hide the “Browse” link in the left column option.
  • Hide Emoticons option, now also hides Facebook “Stickers” in FB chat / messages.

Fixed in this version:

  • Fixed the “hide trending topics box” filter, a new form of the trending box was showing up, this update should hide it, if you have the “Hide Trending Topics” option ticked.
  • Fixed application/game filtering & whitelisting for some users. People with the new newsfeed design may have noticed that the game and app filtering had stopped working, this update should fix that.
  • Fixed application/game message hiding in the news ticker feed.
  • Fixed “Fan” aka “Like Page” story filtering for some users who have the new newsfeed design.

Of course all the features of FB Purity that you know and love are still there: Ad Blocking, Key Word / Phrase filtering in the newsfeed, Filter out specific newsfeed story types, hide all Game and App Posts and hundreds of other filters etc.

Please tell all your friends about F.B. Purity, let them know how much better Facebook is with FB Purity :) Facebook are blocking direct links to the FBPurity website, which makes it harder to share, you just need to be creative, for instance you can tell them to google “FB Purity”, or share links to the FB Purity Fan page on Facebook or share promotional images from that page, or link to the FBP page on Google+ or the FBP Page on Twitter which you should also “add” if you have accounts with them,  as Facebook have a habit of deleting the Fan Pages of browser extensions that they dont like, you should also subscribe to the FBP News Mailing List, to be able to keep up to date with the FBP news, even if Facebook delete the FBP Fan page. You can also share the link to FB Purity via other networks, such as via Email, linked-in, Pinterest, Instagram, snapchat etc

P.S if you are using Safari 7, you might have issues with FBP not loading sometimes, a page refresh should fix it, in theory. If that doesnt work or is too annoying, you should try out FBP in Chrome, Firefox or Opera. I cant test it in Safari 7 as i dont have a Mac, so i cant fix the Safari 7 issues. Another option is to install the NinjaKit extension in Safari, then install the Greasemonkey version of FBP, which you can access via the Firefox link on the FBP install page on the FBP website.

  • Deleted Friend Alerts: You will receive on screen alerts if anyone deletes you from their friend lists. You can turn this feature off on the FBP options screen if you dont want it.
  • Friend Whitelist: Add friends whose posts you dont want to be filtered by FBP to a whitelist, and their posts will remain unfiltered.
  • True Chronological Sorting: Pressing the “R” key will resort your newsfeed into true chronological order.

FB Purity v8.8.2 has been released

New in this release:

  • Fixed “Sort Most Recent” option for the new newsfeed design, and also improved it for the old design too.

FB Purity v8.7.0 Released: Featuring: Hide Trending Topics/Hashtags option, Hide “Similar To” box is now hidden by the ad filter.

Changes in FB Purity v8.7.0

  • Added a hide “Trending” box option, that hides the Trending Topics / Hashtags box in the right hand column.
  • Added: The “Similar to” box that pops up when you like a post by a fan page in the newsfeed is now hidden by default (as part of the hide “Sponsored Box” option)
  • Added a hide “Tagged in status” option
  • Updated the “Hide Facebook Gifts” option, so it should hide the Gifts again.
  • Updated the “Hide sponsored box” option to also hide the “Similar to” box that pops up when you like posts from “fan pages”, as they are basically ads for other pages.
  • Updated the “Hide apps + games posts” option to also hide apps and games posts in the News Ticker

I’ve just released v8.6.1 of F.B. Purity the browser extension that lets you clean up and customize what you see on Facebook.  This version is mainly a maintenance release, fixing various things.

Changes:

  • The start up time of the extension has been improved a great deal, meaning its faster to start filtering, hiding content and applying your CSS style changes when you load the facebook page. This means you should see even less of the ads, as they should be already filtered out before the page finishes loading.
  • Fixed the  hide “Pokes” in the right hand column option.
  • Added a ‘hide “Like Page” button’ option for hiding those annoying “Like Page” buttons that show up on shared items in the newsfeed. ( This option is under the “Newsfeed Filters” / “Link / Page Stories” heading on the FBP options screen )
  • Fixed the hide emoticons option, this filter should filter out emoticons in more locations than before.  ( This option hides the small graphical smileys on Facebook)
  • Fixed the intermittent functioning of the “restore comment button” option. ( This option stops the “Enter” key from submitting your comment before you are ready to submit it, allowing you to easily write multi line comments)
  • Fixed the intermittent functioning of the “fix external link redirection” option.  ( This option stops Facebook tracking and intercepting the external links that you click when browsing Facebook. )
  • Fixed the display of the FBP info bar and newsfeed filtering functionality for some users.

Some Facebook Tips :

Facebook Graph Search

If you are interested in trying out Facebook’s new “Graph Search” feature, which is basically a new Facebook search engine, and you don’t already have it enabled on your Facebook account, you can test it out by switching your Facebook language to “English (US)”. To do that click the “cogwheel” icon in the top right of your page, then select “Account Options” then select “English (US)”  as the language. You will then automatically be able to use the “Facebook Graph” Search engine, via the new search box at the top of your Facebook page.

If on the other hand you have the new “Facebook Graph” search but dont like it, or you simply prefer having the notifications on the left hand side of the search box, instead of the right hand side, you can for now turn off Facebook Graph search by switching your Facebook language to anything other than “English (US)”, see the above instructions on how to change your Facebook language. That should turn off Graph Search and revert your notifications to the left side of the search box.

FB Purity – Cleans up and Customizes Facebook

I’ve released F.B. Purity v8.5.2

Changes Summary:
* Fixed the “TL” button, for switching Facebook “Like Pages” (aka Fan Pages) from the two column layout to a single column layout. (Previously the button wouldnt show up if you had the new Graph Search Bar, it should show up again now).
* Fixed the “Hide Emoticons” option. (most emoticons should be hidden again now)
* Fixed some display issues when the font size setting was enabled.
* Added “Games you may like” to the apps/games filter in the newsfeed.

Please note the Safari version of the extension can no longer be updated, as Apple do not support Safari on Windows any more, and do not provide information on how to renew the Safari Developers Certificate for Windows users. If you want the latest version of FBP and are a Safari user, i suggest you install Chrome or Firefox instead.

BTW if you are curious to try out Facebook’s new graph search feature, and its not yet been enabled on your account, you can enable it, by switching your Facebook interface language to “English (US)” in your Facebook account settings. Once you have enabled the language change, Graph Search will be enabled on your account. If you want to remove the Graph Search bar, you can simply switch your language setting back to whatever it was before. I’m expecting this workaround wont last long, as they will probably be launching Graph Search for all languages soon.

New FB Purity Beta – works with new Facebook Newsfeed design

As you may have heard Facebook are introducing a new look to the Newsfeed. According to my investigations this roll-out of the new design is going quite slowly, as they announced the new design in March, yet as of today, according to my survey on the FBP fan page only around 7 or 8 per cent of Facebook users have the new design so far.

The new design has a big grey sidebar on the left hand side of the feed and looks like this:

If you do have the new newsfeed, you would have realised by now, that the current release of FB Purity (v8.3.0) is not compatible with the new design. *UPDATE* the latest version of FB Purity does indeed work with the new newsfeed design. Update  to the latest version of FBP at http://install.fbpurity.com

However I ‘ve been working on a new beta version of the FB Purity extension that should work with the new design. According to user feedback, its working quite well so far. If you would like to try it out you can get it via the FB Purity Beta Test Page

Please double check that you do actually have the new newsfeed before trying this beta, as if you don’t have the new newsfeed, it wont work for you.

If you find any issues or bugs, please report them on the FBP Beta Test Page

Changes Summary for this release:

  • Added “Hide Facebook Gifts” links option.
  • Added “Hide Notifications Popup Box” option.
  • Fixed bug in the options screen news panel (bug-if feed was too short, surfaced due to facebook’s post deletions)
  • Fixed add “Block Application” link on Facebook games and applications sidebar.
  • Fixed the “Hide all Videos” filter.
  • Fixed hidden file upload buttons when background color is set.
  • Fixed hidden event page buttons in single column timeline layout mode.

Please note that this update is not compatible with the new Newsfeed or new Timeline designs, because I have not yet got those on my account, and I cannot update FBP until i get them.
