FB Purity Update 7.9.6 – Fixes Hide Trending Articles and Link Interception / Redirection + More

FB Purity

I’ve just released FB Purity v7.9.6 which fixes various things, listed below:

  • Fixed hide “Trending Articles”
  • Fixed link and news article redirection/interception
  • Fixed filtering on Interest List pages
  • Fixed Block App link on Application’s permission request pages
  • Fixed important info highlighting on application permission request dialogs
  • Fixed inline youtube video playing on timeline pages
  • Fixed broken icon images in fbp interface

Please note if you installed the chrome version of FBP within the last few weeks, you should first backup your settings via the Export Settings link, before updating to this version, as your settings may get wiped out.

To update to the latest version go to the official FB Purity Installation page and follow the instructions.

If you like F.B. Purity please donate to show your support, FB Purity is a lot of work to develop, maintain and support: https://donate.fbpurity.com Please also tell all your friends about FB Purity too.

Please note that Facebook are still blocking direct links to fbpurity.com, and may at any time remove the FB Purity Fan page on Facebook, so in order to keep up to date with FBP developments, you should also join the FB Purity mailing list, which you can do via the box in the right hand column of this page, also Add FB Purity on Twitter and or Google Plus as I will move there if they delete my facebook account and facebook page.

Please note that I cannot support FB Purity on beta versions of browsers, so if you are using Beta or Dev versions of Firefox or Chrome, you may find FB Purity will stop working, the solution to this is to use the latest Stable versions of those browsers.

BTW if you have used the Custom CSS for reverting graphical smileys to text smileys, you may have noticed the text smileys were no longer being displayed, I’ve updated the CSS code to fix this, you can get the updated code at FB Purity’s Custom CSS Page

In other news, Facebook are still not willing to unblock the fbpurity.com website. I have finally managed to get in touch with someone there, but they are giving me the runaround. At first they were saying they were willing to work with me to get the block removed, but they are now refusing to budge.

If anyone out there has any legal experience, do you think I have got a good case for suing them for Libel / Defamation of character, as they are claiming my website is “Spammy or Unsafe”, both of which are clearly untrue, and got any advice on how to pursue this?

Cheers,

Steve

How to revert graphical smileys back to text smileys in Facebook

If you don’t want to see the smiley graphics and would instead like to go back to having just the plain text smileys, you can do it by installing the latest version of the F.B. Purity web browser extension.

FB Purity has a built in option for hiding Facebook smileys / emoticons / stickers, you just need to open the FBP options screen and tick the “hide smileys / emoticon graphics” option, then click the “Save and Close” button.

FB Purity is a popular, safe and very highly rated web browser extension, that has been reviewed in publications such as The Washington Post, CNET, Lifehacker and PCWorld.  It is designed to clean up and customize Facebook, you can install it and find out more about it here: www.fbpurity.com

*UPDATE 12th Jan 2013* – Facebook now has even more emoticons, that you can access via the “Facebook Messenger” application, you can send them in chat and in Facebook messages (Facebook mail). These graphics include skulls, roses and many other images, that do not have text equivalents.

*UPDATE 29th Jan 2013* – Ive included a built in option to the FB Purity browser extension for hiding the smileys / emoticons now, so you no longer have to use the previous Custom CSS code solution.

*UPDATE* The hide emoticons option in the latest version of F.B. Purity, now also hides “Stickers” in chat.

Get the latest FB Purity via the install page on the F.B. Purity website : https://www.fbpurity.com

FB Purity Update v7.9.0 – Fixes Settings Reset bug

After a lot of user testing, this version seems to be holding the user settings much better.

There may still be some issues for chrome and safari users, so i will need to investigate whats causing that, but overall this release works a lot better than the previous one

Changes in this version:

  • Fixed users settings being reset
  • Separated fb actions/frictionless sharing from the trending articles filter, “fb action” apps should now be filtered by the existing App filter.
  • Fixed “Hide shared a link” filter
  • Fixed “Hide tagged in video” filter
  • Altered (BA) Block App function so it first asks you if you want to block just the app you select, it then asks if you also want to also block the other apps that are showing in the feed
  • Fixed opera bug where after saving settings, extras/apps display may have been corrupted, due to opera reloading the page from cache rather than from the server

This version has been a long time coming and has taken a serious amount of work to get it working again, I hope you appreciate my efforts. If you would like to help support FBP, please donate via http://donate.fbpurity.com

FB PURITY UPDATE : v7.6.2 – Temporary Fix for “New User” screen popping up repeatedly

Hi guys, im back at my development computer now, and have made a temporary fix for the “New User” screen repeatedly popping up bug.

If you have been following the FBP news, you will already know that the reason that screen pops up is because Facebook has started wiping out FBP’s user settings, which makes FBP think you are a new user, as it doesnt have any settings stored for you.

This updated version stops the New User screen from popping up if you are using Chrome, Safari or Opera, as those are the browsers affected by this bug.

Please note: This version has not fixed the root cause of the problem, which is the User Settings being reset by Facebook, as this is going to take a lot of work to fix and get working properly, and i will release a further update when this is fixed.

Please stay tuned for further news on this, I would recommend you subscribe to the FBP News mailing list, which you can do on the right hand column of this page

I also recommend you “Like” the FBP fan page on Facebook at http://facebook.com/fluffbustingpurity and in case Facebook decide to delete that page (again) also to “+1” the FBP Fan page on Google Plus at https://plus.google.com/+FbpurityNews

Until I can get a proper fix for the settings being reset, I recommend you save your FBP settings, via the “Export Settings” button on the FBP options screen, so you can restore them whenever they get reset. Or if you don’t want your settings to be repeatedly reset, the current workaround I recommend is to use Firefox and the FBP Firefox extension, as that version of FBP is not affected by this bug.

Please be patient, while I develop a proper fix, for the user settings being reset and if you would like to show your support for FB Purity, please donate via: http://donate.fbpurity.com

Cheers,

Steve

Bug : “New user” pop up window repeatedly appearing in Chrome, Safari and Opera

If you are repeatedly seeing the “new user” popup window appearing, and you are using Chrome,Safari or Opera,
A preliminary investigation by an FBP user, has found that Facebook are sabotaging the saved settings by deleting them from the browser.

The current workaround for this, is to use Firefox, as in Firefox, FBP uses a different method to save its settings which is not affected by Facebooks latest sabotage attempts.

Sorry for any inconvenience, please be patient, while i work on a fix,

Cheers,

Steve

**UPDATE** This bug is now fixed in the latest version of FBP, just re-install via http://install.fbpurity.com for the fixed version.
