FB Purity – Minor Update to fix hide Trending Articles functionality

Facebook have changed the code of the Trending Articles boxes, which means the current version of FB Purity can no longer hide them.
I’ve updated FBP to fix this, if you want that functionality fixed, just clear your browser cache and then reinstall via
the FB Purity website.

Please note the version number hasnt changed, so it will still report 7.6.1 after you have installed the update, though it should once again be able to hide “Trending Articles” posts.

Facebook’s latest ridiculous sabotage attempts against FB Purity

Outrageous! Facebook’s latest atttempt to sabotage FB Purity.

Facebook have claimed that I’ve violated their Statement of Rights and Responsibilities, with the following light hearted comment i posted on the FBP fan page ( http://facebook.com/fluffbustingpurity ) on Facebook in reply to a users request for information:

“read the post that you are replying to. The new instructions for
installing on chrome are there. They are also listed on the install page on
fbpurity .com

If one more person asks how to install the chrome extension i think i will
scream…”

Can anyone explain how on earth that comment is violating Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities? This is insane!

In addition to the accusation, they have also blocked me from posting to Facebook for 24 hours, and also say if I do it again, i may be banned permanently from Facebook!

Ridiculous abuse of power!

I’m including screenshots of the messages i received when i logged in today.

(Please note that the blurred out text in the first image is just the Facebook user name of the person i was replying to, which ive blurred out to protect their identity and privacy)

Please help to publicise this outrageous and ridiculous abuse of power. (you can +1 and reshare the google plus post about it here or retweet the Twitter post about it here. You can also post those links to Facebook to help get the word out.

FB Purity Updated to fix the news article and external link interception/redirection

FB Purity Update

Changes:

  • Fixed Facebook’s news article and external link interception/redirection

Due to a code change at Facebook, the “fix news article and link redirect” option had stopped working. Ive updated the FBP files on fbpurity.com with a code fix. Ive not updated the version number, so if you want this update, just clear your browser cache and re-install via http://fbpurity.com

BTW You may or may not know this, but facebook has around 700-800 developers, and there is just one of me, so the rate of changes in the Facebook code can be hard to keep up with sometimes.

If you already have FBP v7.6.1 and dont require the fix for the external link and news article redirection/interception then theres no need to update.

If you do need the fix, or have a version of FBP older than v7.6.1, Install the update via FBPurity.com

N.B. Please note if you are using Chrome v21 or above, you wont be able to install this extension directly from the fbpurity site, you need to right click the install link and save the extension to your computer, then drag it onto your browser’s Tools / Extensions page to install it.

FB Purity Update 7.6.0 – Disables Facebook’s external link checker, adds ‘X’ links to remove events on the events page + more

FB Purity Update v7.6.0

Changes:

  • Removed Facebooks link checking redirects on external links, which means Facebook cant block links, cant track what links you click on, and speeds up opening external links (can be turned back on if you deselect the “fix news article and link redirects” option)
  • Added Remove event “x” links on events page ( facebook.com/events/ , to make it easier to delete/remove events
  • Highlights applications in “App Center” that request email or posting permissions
  • Fixed block application link on application pages
  • Fixed application blocking when user has FB interface set to a language other than English

  • Fixed various extra filters including ‘shared a photo’ and ‘uploaded photo’
  • Fixed “fix news article redirect” option to show google search link for articles read via “social reader” and other news article URLs that dont have the URL to the actual article embedded in them

I fixed FB Purity’s hide trending articles / trending videos functionality again, reinstall via fbpurity.com for the fixed version

FB Purity’s hide Trending Articles / Trending Videos functionality had stopped working due to a code change at Facebook. I’ve fixed FBP so the function should work again, to get the fixed version, clear your browser cache then re-install via the fbpurity .com website. (I’ve not incremented the version number this time, so the fixed version will still show as v7.5.1)

Regarding the recent vote on Facebook’s new privacy policy. In case you did’t already hear, the users of Facebook who actualyl heard about the vote, voted overwhelmingly against Facebook’s change, though as 30% of active facebook users didnt vote, they are just going to ignore us.

The reason 30% of facebooks users didnt vote is that Facebook never announced the vote to all its users. They are claiming that they tried hard to tell everyone on Facebook about this, but in reality they made very little effort, only announcing it to the few people who had “liked” the “facebook privacy” and the “facebook site governance” pages, and not even all those people got to see the announcement, due to the way Facebook selects which pages statuses show up in the newsfeed. Facebook continues to lead the world in being the most untrustworthy site around.

Tip: To hide the “Suggested Pokes” box add the following code (you need to click the Custom CSS heading on the FBP options screen first)

How to hide the “Promote” button below Facebook Page status boxes:
Just add the following code to the Custom CSS box:

F.B Purity Update v7.5.1 – Fixes the ‘Hide Trending Articles’ Option, Hide sponsored box option also now hides sponsored stories in the newsfeed.

Changes in FB Purity v7.5.1

  • Fixed hiding trending articles option (was broken due to a recent fb code change) – This option may also hide the new Trending Videos box
  • Hide sponsored box option now also hides sponsored stories in the newsfeed
  • Centered and widened single column timeline layout
  • Added “‘matched filter’ text for various filters, for identifying which extra filter was triggered by which story”
  • Tweaked “Block Application” buttons on application permission request pages, so the Block button shows up right next to the other buttons.
  • Improved various extra filters to match more stories

In other news, Facebook are still blocking links to the fbpurity.com website, and claiming fbpurity.com is a spammy and unsafe website, this claim is ludicrous, and actually libellous!

As most readers will already know, FB Purity is a highly rated and respected, and completely safe facebook antispam and customisation tool.

Claiming that “F.B. Purity” is “unsafe and spammy” is a complete lie, F.B Purity is no such thing, you just need to check out the glowing reviews its received in the press such as in the Washington Post, Lifehacker, CNET, PCWorld, and the over 70,000 happy uers the tool has worldwide.
You can also check out any online antivirus scanner or website reputation checking tool to see that F.B. Purity is compltely safe.

It is actually Facebook that is the spammy and unsafe website, F.B. Purity is a tool that tries and cleans up Facebook’s mess. Yet all they do is try and sabotage F.B. Purity at every turn, by doing things such as disabling the Developer of F.B. Puritys personal facebook account and disabling the F.B. Purity Fan page: http://facebook.com/fluffbustingpurity for long periods of time, without any warning, explanation or apology.

  • Added a Single Column Timeline layout option (You can activate it with the green “TL” button next to the search box or via the FBP options screen)
  • Re-added the ability to filter out “FB Actions/Frictionless sharing apps” (ticking hide “read an article” will now also activate hiding other “frictionless sharing” apps)
  • Fixed news article redirects for Trending Articles stories
  • Fixed the hide trending articles box option
  • Fixed “BA” (Block Application) and “WL” (Whitelist) links on application posts in the newsfeed
  • Added “Block Application” link to the bottom left of all facebook application pages
  • Added “Block Application” button to all facebook application permission request pages
  • Highlights Facebook Applications requests to access your email address in Facebook Applications permissions pages
  • Fixed hidden comment buttons in group welcome box (buttons are blank, but better than nothing)
