Facebook have changed the code for their Sponsored Posts to get past FBP’s adblocking functionality
**Important News** If you have started seeing Sponsored posts again in the newsfeed, this is because Facebook have changed their code to get around FBP’s ad blocking. I am looking into fixing this, please be patient, thanks.
In the meantime, if you want to view Facebook without the ads, here are some suggestions.
1) Click the 3 dots “…” next to where it says “Newsfeed” at the top left of the Newsfeed, and select one of the other available feeds, (“Friends Feed“, “Pages Feed“, “Groups Feed” or “Photos Feed“. None of those feeds should have any ads on them (in theory).
2) Although Facebook have announced they are phasing out custom Friends List feeds, they do still seem to be accessible (for me at least). These custom friends list feeds, if you have created any or can still create them are also ad free. You can view / create friends lists at https://www.facebook.com/bookmarks/lists/
3) Visit the following link https://www.facebook.com/me/friends_with_unseen_posts and it will tell you which of your friends have made new posts recently, and you can visit their Timelines individually as users individual Timeline pages do not yet show ads as far as I am aware.
4) Visit the mobile version of the Facebook website: https://m.facebook.com
although you won’t have all your usual FBP functionality available for filtering the newsfeed etc, FBP will actually block the ads from the newsfeed on the mobile website version of Facebook. (Note you do not need to use a mobile device to view the mobile website, you just need to click the link above in your desktop browser that has FBP installed, or type the URL (m.facebook.com) into your browser.
5) This option is a bit more extreme, but FBP has an option to hide the whole Newsfeed, so you shouldnt see any more Sponsored Posts (along with all the other posts) To use this option, tick the hide “The Whole Newsfeed” option, located under the “Various Post Types” heading on the FBP options screen.
6) If there ads from a particular Page you do not want to see in your newsfeed, put the full name of the Page into FB Purity’s Text Filter box.
7) I guess one could also use this as an excuse to use Facebook less, find something more productive / creative / worthwhile / interesting to do with your time.
Tried any of these tips? Let us know how you get on? Got any other tips for viewing Facebook ad free? Or got any tips on code that can be used to hide the ads, Share them in the comments or send them in via the Contact page on FBPURITY .COM
In other news Facebook have added 2 new links that some people are seeing in the Left Column, titled “Trending News” and “Creator Studio“, if you wish to hide those links, copy and paste the relevant CSS code snippet/s from below into FBP’s CSS box on the FBP options screen.
/* Hide “Trending News” link in Facebook’s left hand column */
#navItem_343553122467255 {display:none !important}
/* Hide “Creator Studio” link in Facebook’s left hand column */

- Fixed the post privacy setting menu not going away after change privacy setting when the hide “Sponsored Box / Posts” option was turned on.
- Added hiding the “Your Story” section below the Status update box to the “Right Column” hide “Stories” box option. Please note, if you turn on the option to hide the “Stories” box, there is a short delay after the “Your Story” section shows up and it being hidden.

Important Information for Chrome Users of F.B. Purity
If you have installed the FBP Chrome extension via the “Inline Install” method (by clicking the green “Install F.B. Purity” button on the FBP Install page) or directly via the Chrome Webstore, you should now receive automatic updates (Chrome checks for extension updates once every 5 hours). If you don’t want to wait, and know an update is available you can force an update by turning on “Developer Mode” on the Chrome extensions management page, then clicking the “Update Extensions Now” button (make sure you don’t have any facebook tabs open, so Chrome can unload the existing version first).
To let other Google Chrome users know that FBP is safe and a great way to clean up Facebook Please leave a 5* review for F.B. Purity in the Google Chrome Webstore
Important information for Firefox users of F.B. Purity
Firefox users who are getting the “Connection Failure” error when trying to install FBP, I have discovered the reason why this is happening. It is a known bug in Firefox that occurs if you are using Antivirus software that monitors your web browsing. The work-around, as mentioned in the FAQ is to right click on the install button, then select save, then install the extension by dragging and dropping it on to the Firefox extension management page. This Firefox bug also prevents Firefox from automatically updating FBP when new versions are released.
Important Information for Microsft Edge users of F.B. Purity
FB Purity is now available as an official Microsoft Edge extension obtainable directly from the Microsoft Edge store If you install the official Edge FBP extension from the Microsoft Edge store, it should auto-update when new versions are released in future. Be aware however that the Microsoft Store has a slow (manual) approval process for accepting extension updates, so the new version will not show up in the Microsoft Store for a day or two after I release an extension update.

Important Information for Opera users of F.B. Purity
The FB Purity extension for Opera is now initially installed from this site via the “Inline” install method which actually sideloads the extension from the official Opera extensions website. Once it has been installed in that manner or via the Opera extensions site itself, whenever updates to the FBP extension are uploaded and approved on the Opera extensions site, the version of FBP in your browser should auto-update at some point. It can sometimes be triggered by closing the browser, waiting a bit and re-opening it, there is also an “Update Extensions Now” button on the Opera extensions management page.
All other FBP users can update to the latest version of FB Purity by clicking the green “Install F.B. Purity” button on the FB Purity Install page on FBPURITY.COM and then following the on screen instructions.

- Added “Started a Watch Party” and “Hosted a Watch Party” to the hide “Shared a Video” newsfeed filter option
Important Info about the “Posts From Across Facebook” thing that is showing up in some people’s Newsfeeds. Facebook is testing a new “Feature” on some users called “Posts from Across Facebook” basically, this shows up after Facebook decides you have seen enough posts from your friends, groups you have joined and Pages you have liked, and instead starts showing you posts from Pages you have not actually liked! There is nothing FBP can do about this, other than hide those posts, which you can do by ticking the Hide “Fan Page Posts” option, which is located under the “Various Post Types” heading on the FBP options screen, the only problem with that is, that it will also hide posts from Pages you have actually liked.
If you do choose that option, the Space / Rocket ship image will still show, but you can hide that too by putting the text “Posts From Across Facebook” into the “Text Filter” box on the FBP options screen. This solution will not create new posts in your Newsfeed, FBP simply cannot do that, so your newsfeed will be cut short, as it can only filter out posts that Facebook presents in the Newsfeed. So the only real solution to see more posts if you are stuck with this monstrosity is to try viewing other feeds such as Friends List Feed, the Friends Feed, Pages Feed, or view individual friends Timelines (You can see which of your friends have new posts by going to the following page : https://www.facebook.com/me/friends_with_unseen_posts )

P.S. Tips for Mobile users who want to access Facebook on the move
Although there is no FBP mobile app available, for security and privacy reasons, I advise you not to use any of Facebook’s apps as they require access to everything on your phone. Its safer and better for your privacy to access Facebook via the mobile website. If you use the standard Facebook mobile website m.facebook.com you will notice you can’t access your messages on that version of the site, there is however a more basic version of the website that does let you send and receive messages, the other bonus is that there are apparently no ads on the site and it loads much quicker, to access the basic FB mobile website go here: mbasic.facebook.com
F.B. Purity v24.1.0 Fixes the bug that was hiding all newsfeed posts
A Facebook code change today, caused a bug in F.B. Purity that was causing all newsfeed posts to be hidden if the Hide “Sponsored Box / Posts” option was turned on.
This release v24.1.0 fixes that bug.
Whats new in F.B. Purity Version 24.1.0
- Fixed: All newsfeed posts were being hidden if the Hide “Sponsored Box / Posts” option was turned on. This is fixed in this release. (Please note: if you are using the Edge or Opera browsers, you will need to wait for the FBP update to be manually approved by those companies, before you will be able to get the update, it usually takes a day or 2 for the updates to be processed.)
- Fixed: The “Clear Interests with FBP” button on the Facebook “Ad Prefs” page should now clear out a lot more of the interests with each press, as it now automatically expands the “See More” links for each category before clearing the interests in that category.
- New: The Hide “Marketplace” option under the “Left Column Links” heading on the FBP options screen, now also hides the “Recently Viewed in Marketplace” box that shows on the right hand side of the page.
- How to: How to hide the “More Information about this Article” button. Some people have been asking how to hide the new (i) button that appears on posts from Pages in the Newsfeed, titled “More information about this article”, I have posted some CSS code on the F.B. Purity CSS page that lets you hide that button.
- Known Issue: It seems the bug in the “Sort Notifications Chronologically” option, that was causing the notifications in the Globe menu dropdown to disappear, leaving just the “See All” link behind, has resurfaced. The workaround for this issue is to turn off the “Sort Notifications Chronologically” option, which is located under the “Notifications” heading on the FBP options screen. I’m still working on a fix for this.

A Facebook code change has caused a bug in FBP that is hiding all posts in the Newsfeed
**IMPORTANT NEWS** – There is currently a bug in FBP thats causing all newsfeed posts to be hidden
Due to a Facebook code change, FBP’s Hide “Sponsored Box / Posts” option is currently hiding all the posts in the Newsfeed.
**UPDATE** A new version of FBP has been released that fixes this issue, check the latest news post for more information.
To stop this, turn off the Hide “Sponsored Box / Posts” option. To do this, click the FBP link at the top of your Facebook page, then un-tick the Hide “Sponsored Box / Posts” option right at the top of the FBP options screen under the “More Options” heading, then click the “Save and Close” button.
Sorry about the inconvenience, I am working on a fix for this now, please be patient,
Thanks.
Steve.

Important Information for Chrome Users of FB Purity
Important Information for Microsft Edge users of FB Purity
FB Purity is now available as an official Microsoft Edge extension available directly from the Microsoft Edge store So the old method of installing the FBP GM Script via the Tampermonkey extension is no longer required. If you install the official Edge FBP extension from the Microsoft Edge store, it should auto-update when new versions are released in future. Be aware however that the Microsoft Store has a slow (manual) approval process for accepting extension updates, so the new version will not show up in the Microsoft Store for a day or two after I release an extension update.

All other FBP users can update to the latest version of FB Purity by clicking the green “Install F.B. Purity” button on the FB Purity Install page on FBPURITY.COM and then following the on screen instructions.

FBP 23.2.2 Fixes the hide sponsored posts (ads) on Facebook option
FBP 23.2.2 Fixes the hide sponsored posts (ads) on Facebook option
Facebook have changed some code with regard to adverts, which meant they started to get past FB Purity‘s ad filter. I’ve managed to fix FBP so it will filter out Sponsored Posts / Suggested Posts again, and have uploaded the new version. Also fixed in this version is the hide “Greetings” Left Column Link option.
To get FB Purity‘s sponsored post filtering working again, update to the latest version of FB Purity.

FB Purity v23.1.0 Hides the new “Suggested For You” box – and lets you filter stories in the Trending Box
FB Purity v23.1.0 has been released, it hides the new “Suggested For You” box and lets you filter stories in the Trending Box with the FBP Text Filter.
Happy New Year, FBP Fans! I hope your new year is going well and I hope you are enjoying using FB Purity to keep your Facebook clean and tidy. Maintaining and Updating FB Purity is a lot of work, so if you have been using FBP for a while, and can afford it, donations are always welcome, heaps of gratitude to those who have donated to the cause already, Cheers!
Changes in this release:
- Fixed the “Hide Sponsored Box / Posts” option to hide the new “Suggested For You” box (which is a box containing a list of videos Facebook thinks you should watch, located to right of the Newsfeed). This option is turned on by default when you first install FB Purity, so just installing or updating FBP should be enough to remove the “Suggested For You” box.
- Fixed the “Sort Notifications Chronologically” option. **Update** it seems there’s still a minor bug in this option, but it shouldn’t happen too often, where sometimes the notifications list may go blank if you are receiving lots of notifications at a rapid pace. If this happens just close the list and re-open it and it should show up again. Alternatively, if its causing problems you could turn this option off for now, and just click the “See All” link at the bottom of the notifications list, as that will show your notifications sorted chronologically too.
- Fixed “Hide all Videos” option
- Fixed the hide “Graphical Smileys / Emoticons” option
- New option titled “Apply ‘Text Filter’ to Trending Box”, located on the Trending Box options screen, which can be accessed by clicking the cogwheel icon at the top left of the “Trending Box”. With this option ticked, FBP will filter out any stories containing any text you have entered into FBP’s “Text Filter” box.
